Spring Lake is the first lake in the Woodington system, nearest the fishery office and car park. There is an island in the centre of the lake with 2 or 3 deep areas around it. Fish are often taken in these areas on slowly fished nymphs, such as damsels. During hatches the fish are commonly taken on small dry flies. This lake is for Gold ticket holders only with no catch-and-release fishing. The minimum stock size is 4 lb up to double figures. This is a very popular lake and to ensure you can fish please book 24hrs in advance to avoid disappoinment.
Kingfisher Lake is the second lake in the Woodington system. Damsels, buzzers and small nymphs are often used on this lake - Montana's and Cat's Whiskers also fish well. Water depths vary throughout the lake and fish are always well distributed in all areas. Kingfisher and Top Lakes are excellent for the novice or beginner since long casting is not necessary. The water is very clear in the top two lakes and fish can often be taken using 'stalking' tactics. Fishing for all ticket holders.
The Leat was a new addition to the trout fishery in 2006 and benefits from excellent hatches of many insect species. It is stocked with Rainbow trout. The water is deep with fishing from single bank. Fishing for all ticket holders.
Shearwater Lake is the fourth and largest lake in the Woodington system. It is at its deepest at the top end, where water enters from the Leat and fish are often caught in this deep water. Prolific evening hatches bring the fish to the surface during the warmer months and dry fly, buzzer and small nymphs all catch well. In colder months lures are often used in the deeper water and around the island at its bottom end where it leads to Keepers Lake. Fishing for all ticket holders.
Fly Fishing for Carp. Featured on BBC South Today: Catch-and-release fishing for carp on Keepers Lake. Fantastic sport for large carp from July to September.
